David Thomas was a four-year letterman in basketball. The lanky 6’4” forward broke into the starting line-up during his freshman year. He ended the year as the third leading scorer, averaging 11.3 points per game.

The following three years produced the best three consecutive years in Thiel College men’s basketball history. The finished 32-20 with two second-place conference finishes. The 1967-68 season recorded the most Thiel wins since the 1923-24 season and the best winning percentage since 1939-40, placing 16th in national defense. These records were broken in 1969-70 when the team won Thiel’s first PAC championship for men’s basketball. Thomas averaged 16.8 points per game in this championship year.

He was twice selected to the All-PAC teams. He was also selected to the All-Lutheran Team and Outstanding College Athletes of America in 1970. At the time of his induction, he ranked sixth in career field goals (408) and ninth in career rebounds (508).
