Lynn Jones was a three-sport athlete, earning three letters in baseball and basketball and two letters in soccer. Jones was a swing man and a two-year captain for the Blue and Gold Cagers. He was an All-Lutheran Honorable Mention selection his senior year.

Jones made his name in baseball. A two-year team captain, Jones patrolled the outfield. Whenever a timely hit was needed, Jones delivered. His junior year, Jones batted .360 and was an All-PAC First Team selection. As a senior, Jones batted an impressive .440 and again was selected to the All-PAC First Team.

Following his college days, the personable Thiel athlete was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in 1974. His travels took Jones from the minor leagues to the Detroit Tigers and the Kansas City Royals, where he toiled as an outfielder and played in the 1985 World Series.
