Thiel College is committed to the development of a safe intercollegiate athletics program by providing a safe sporting environment and protecting the health and well being of its student-athletes. The Thiel sports medicine department is comprised of two full-time Certified Athletic Trainers, the college’s director of student health and the team orthopedic physicians, all of whom are committed to providing the highest quality of healthcare to nearly 400 student-athletes among the 24 intercollegiate sports. Their success can only be accomplished through effective communication and cooperation between the student-athletes, coaches, physicians, athletic trainers and all other medical personnel.

Athletic training services at Thiel are provided through contract with UPMC's Center for Sports Medicine. The athletic training staff members consist of board certified members of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) and are certified by the board of medicine within the state of Pennsylvania and hold current CPR/AED certifications.

Policies and procedures for preventing and managing athletically related injuries at Thiel are established using recommendations from the NCAA Sports Medicine Handbook and the NATA's Policy Statements. On-site medical services provided include, but are not limited to: prevention, evaluation, and treatment of injuries and illnesses, rehabilitation services, pre-participation physical examinations, as well as nutritional and drug educational counseling.

Athletic training services are provided for both Thiel varsity and junior varsity intercollegiate athletes and visiting intercollegiate teams scheduled to compete at Thiel.
