Cackowski rakes league-leading 7th homer

GREENVILLE, Pa. (April 8) -- The Thiel College Baseball team dropped both halves of a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) twinbill with Allegheny College Wednesday from Tomcat Park.

The Tomcats dip to 5-19 (2-8) while the Gators rise to 16-10 (8-2) with wins of 14-4 in game one and 13-5 in the nightcap.

Game 1: Thiel 4, Allegheny 14 (7 Inn.)
Calvin Cackowski (Wickliffe, Ohio/Wickliffe) blasted his league-leading seventh home run in the fourth inning. Cackowski is aiming to become the sixth Tomcat ever to post 10 or more home runs in a season. The feat has not been accomplished since Justin Scarpitti launched 10 in 2009.

Cackowski finished with a trio of hits along with 2 runs and RBIs each. Zach Smith (Steubenville, Ohio/Steubenville) and Colton Brightwell (Eighty Four, Pa./Bentworth) each had RBIs in the defeat.

Game 2: Thiel 5, Alleghny 13
Smith recorded a pair of hits and runs each while Andrew Eichenauer (Aurora, Ohio/Aurora) scored twice and had a hit. Cole Sherwin (Karns City, Pa./Karns City) had two RBIs while Kolten Kruskewski, Max Bihler (Delaware, Ohio/Olentangy Berlin) and Cackowski each had one.

Six different Cats drew free passes as Sherwin and Justin Dubee (Gibsonia, Pa./Hampton) each had two.

Looking Ahead
Thiel is back in action tomorrow for a non-conference 3 p.m. single-nine at Penn State Behrend.
