GREENVILLE, Pa. (June 2) -- Thiel College Baseball players Colton Brightwell (Eighty Four, Pa./Bentworth), Kolten Kruszewski (Erie, Pa./Mercyhurst Prep), Joey Schimizzi (Willowick, Ohio/Willoughby South) and Cole Sherwin (Karns City, Pa./Karns City) were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District team Tuesday afternoon.

The CSC Academic All-District program recognizes student-athletes that excel on the court and in the classroom. To be eligible for academic all-district status, a student-athlete must compete in 90 percent of the institution's games played or start in at least two-thirds of the team's games. An undergraduate student-athlete must have at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA.

Brightwell, a senior outfielder and exercise science major, acquired his third straight CSC appearance with a 3.76 GPA.

Brightwell anchored the Tomcats' defense in right field, competing in all 38 games for the Tomcats. He posted 17 RBI's and 22 runs in the 2026 season, with a batting average of .247 and led the team with 154 at bats. 

Kruszewski, a junior infielder and exercise science major, gathered a 3.66 GPA. 

The Erie native posted a career best in at bats (103), runs (18), hits (31), doubles (5), and RBI's (17). Kruszewski played in 31 games for the Blue and Gold and had a batting average of .301. 

Schimizzi, a junior infielder and exercise science major, posted a 3.76 GPA. 

The third baseman ended the 2026 season with career bests in at bats (111), runs (16), hits (32), and RBI's (21). Schimizzi also played in 31 contests for Thiel and had an on base percentage of .341. 

Sherwin, a senior shortstop and computer science/ data analytics major, gathered his second All-District appearance with a 3.94 GPA. 

Sherwin ended his career in Greenville with a career best in runs (23) and at bats (110). He had an on base percentage of .412, batting average of .273 and led the team with 23 walks.
