GREENVILLE, Pa. (March 30) -- The Thiel College Baseball team dropped a 14-8 non-conference clash with No. 15 Mount Union Monday afternoon from Tomcat Park.
The Tomcats drop to 5-15 while the Purple Raiders improve to 19-4.
Calvin Cackowski (Wickliffe, Ohio/Wickliffe) raked a leadoff solo homer in the second inning and
JT Gerle (Ambridge, Pa./Ambridge) knocked a 2-RBI double to put Thiel ahead 3-2. Thiel added runs in the third and fourth along with 2 more in the fifth on a Cackowski 2-run dinger to make it 7-4 Cats.
Cackowski recorded a career-high-tying four RBIs as he secured his second collegiate two-homer game. Square finished with a RBI while Gerle had two runs knocked in.
The visitors mounted a comeback with 10 runs in the last three innings. The Purple Raiders notched a four-spot in each of the seventh and eighth innings along with 2 more in the ninth en route to the win.
Max Bihler (Delaware, Ohio/Olentangy Berlin) had a game-high-tying three hits with a run.
Hewitt Wilt (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva) had a pair of hits and a run while
Ivan Rudiak (Youngstown, Ohio/Boardman) reached base four times with two hits and walks each along with a pair of runs.
Joey Fell (Warren, Ohio/Champion) and
Colton Brightwell (Eighty Four, Pa./Bentworth) each drew two walks and scored once.
Adam Manuel (Petrolia, Pa./Karns City) started for Thiel and worked 4.1 innings for a no decision.
David Medich (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) recorded 1.2 innings of scoreless relief while
Mason Suss (Monongahela, Pa./Ringgold) was tagged with a loss in 0.2 innings of relief.
Thiel is back in action Wednesday for a single-nine home non-conference clash with Penn State Shennago.
