SALISBURY, Md. (Aug. 29) -- The Thiel College Women's Volleyball fell in straight sets to American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) preseason No. 6 UW-Oshkosh Friday evening in the season opener at Salisbury's Margie Knight Classic from Maggs Activities Center.
The Tomcats fall to 0-1 while the Titans rise to 1-0 with set score wins of 25-18, 25-18 and 25-11.
The Titans used a 7-0 run in set one to pull ahead 20-9 before the Tomcats battled back and tallied 5 of the next 7 points and 8 of the next 11 to pull within 6 at 23-17. UW-Oshkosh ultimately went on to take the frame 25-18.
The two sides played sideout volleyball early in set two as a
Daisy Jenness (Pendleton, Ore./Pendleton) kill trimmed the deficit to 5-4. The Titans rattled off 9 straight points to pull ahead 14-4 before a kill from Jenness and ace from
Danielle Aulet (Lawrence, Kansas/Mineral Ridge) capped a 4-0 run that put Thiel back within 6. Thiel staved off 3 set-point tries at 24-15, but UW-Oshkosh closed the frame to lead 2-0.
Aulet posted a match-pacing 14 digs to run her career total to 1,658 and move her in to second in Thiel history in career digs. She added a team-best three aces.
Jenness led Thiel with seven kills as she added a pair of digs and a block assist.
Like set two, the third frame was close early as a kill from
Lyndzee Amory (Edinboro, Pa./Saegertown) and another Aulet ace made it 7-6. UW-Oshkosh went on to outscore Thiel 18-5 the rest of the way to seal the sweep. Amory posted three kills, two blocks and a dig on the night.
Thiel held the edge at the net with seven total blocks (4 BS, 6 BA) to the Titans' five (1 BS, 8 BA).
Arin DeLattre (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) had a match-best four blocks (3 BS, 1 BA).
Kylee Jordan (Orrville, Ohio/Waynedale) added four kills and digs each while
Carlie Reynolds (Grove City, Pa./Grove City Area) dished out 15 assists and dug four balls.
The Titans held the Tomcats to .035 attacking while swinging at a .354 clip as a team.
The Tomcats return to action tomorrow morning against Salisbury at 10 and Penn State Altoona at 2 p.m. Both teams made the NCAA Tournament in 2024.
