DeLattre, Jenness post double-digit kills in matchup with Salisbury

SALISBURY, Md. (Aug. 30) -- The Thiel College Women's Volleyball team fell in straight sets at reigning NCAA Tournament qualifiers Salisbury University Saturday morning in the Margie Knight Classic from Maggs Physical Activities Center.

The Tomcats fall to 0-2 while the Sea Gulls rise to 2-0 on the young season with set score wins of 25-20, 25-19 and 25-14.

Arin DeLattre (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) accounted for the first 4 Thiel points of the match with a trio of kills and an ace to pit the Tomcats to a 4-1 start. A 3-0 Thiel run with a pair of Daisy Jenness (Pendleton, Ore./Pendleton) kills gave Thiel a 14-12 advantage. Salisbury logged 7 of the next 9 points to lead 19-16, but back-to-back Thiel points made it 19-18. The home side went on a 6-2 run to end the frame and go ahead 1-0.

DeLattre tied for the team lead in kills (12) and aces (two) as she hit a team-pacing .320. Jenness posted 12 kills as well on 40 swings and dug eight balls.

Kylee Jordan (Orrville, Ohio/Waynedale) opened set two with an ace as Thiel jumped to a 7-2 lead. The Blue and Gold held a 14-10 advantage on a Jenness kill before a 7-3 Salisbury run knotted things at 17. The Sea Gulls posted the next 5 points and 8 of the final 10 to pull ahead 2-0 in the match.

Jordan tallied four kills and tied with DeLattre for the team-lead in aces with two.

A Lyndzee Amory (Edinboro, Pa./Saegertown) kill in set three trimmed Salisbury's lead to 10-8, but the hosts used a pair of separate 6-0 runs to claim control of the set and seal the straight-set win. Amory finished with a trio of kills in the defeat.

Carlie Reynolds (Grove City, Pa./Grove City Area) posted her first double-double of the season with a match-high-tying 29 assists and a team-best 11 digs.

Danielle Aulet (Lawrence, Kansas/Mineral Ridge) and Macie Williams (Cochranton, Pa./Cochranton) added seven digs each.

The Tomcats return to action later today at 2 p.m. against Penn State Altoona to close out the Margie Knight Classic.
