Box Score 1 ALTOONA, Pa. – The Thiel College men's volleyball team won a pair of Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) matches on Saturday as they defeated PSU-Altoona (3-1) and Wittenberg University (3-2).
Thiel opened their match against PSU-Altoona with a 2-0 set lead before dropping the third set 25-23. The Tomcats would bounce back and take the match by winning the fourth 25-18.
Three Tomcats collected game-highs including
Chance Hoffman (Cochranton, Pa./Cochranton) with 15 kills,
Ryan Sumarsono (Victor, N.Y./Victor) with 22 digs, and
Stephen Borgen (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler Area) with 43 assists.
Thiel won in five-sets in their second match despite opening the match in a 2-0 set deficit before rallying to take each of the next three sets to take the match 3-2.
On the day
Jacob Burkley (Waterford, Pa./Fort LeBoeuf) collected a team-high 11 blocks on the day.
With two conference wins on Saturday, Thiel goes to 7-8 overall and 4-0 overall in the AMCC.
The Tomcats are back in action on Tuesday as they face AMCC opponent Penn State Behrend, first serve is set for 7 p.m. in Erie, Pa.
