Thiel men’s volleyball to participate in CVC Tournament

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The fourth-seeded Thiel College men's volleyball team will open play in the 2015 Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) Tournament Friday.

The Tomcats will face tournament host Rutgers-Newark, the No. 1 seed in the tournament, Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Led by first-year head coach Adam Roche, the Tomcats finished the regular season with an 11-13 record and a 4-8 record in the CVC.

The Tomcats led the CVC in both digs (1092) and blocks per set (2.68) during the regular season. Senior Dylan Lasher (Ford City, Pa./Elderton) led the Tomcats in kills (214). Fellow seniors John Turner (Cambridge Springs, Pa./Cambridge Springs) and Michael Whitelock (Pittsburgh, Pa./Schenley) recorded 183 kills in the regular season. Colin Vitale (Pittsburgh, Pa./Montour) paced the Tomcats defensively with a conference-best 287 digs while Whitelock had a team-best 95 blocks.

Thiel lost a pair of matches to Rutgers-Newark this year. On Feb. 14, the Tomcats suffered a 3-2 loss at home to the Scarlet Raiders. Thiel was also defeated 3-0 by Rutgers-Newark on March 28.

The Tomcats have participated in the single-elimination CVC Tournament every year since the conference formed in 2012.
