Men’s Volleyball drops hard-fought contest to #7-ranked Nazareth

Box Score KENOSHA, Wis. - The Thiel men's volleyball team rallied to tie the #7-ranked Golden Flyers of Nazareth College at two sets apiece at the Carthage Tournament on Saturday, but the Golden Flyers prevailed, taking set five, 15-11 and the match, 3-2.
 
Nazareth took the opening two sets by scores of 25-19 and 25-18 before Thiel bounced back with a 25-20 triumph in set three. After the Golden Flyers raced out to an 18-12 lead in the fourth set, the Tomcats rebounded to outscore Nazareth 13-5 to win the fourth set, 25-23, and a force a decisive fifth set.
The Tomcats held a slim 8-6 advantage in the deciding fifth set; however, the Golden Flyers responded by outscoring Thiel 9-3 down the stretch to win the set and seal the victory.
 
Thiel was led by junior Michael Whitelock (Pittsburgh, Pa./Schenley), who finished with a team-high 12 kills, to go along with five digs and three and a half total blocks.
Seniors Kyle Turkalj (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area) and Andrew Pohlod (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) added 10 and nine kills, respectively, while junior John Turner (Cambridge Springs, Pa./Cambridge Springs) pitched in eight. Sophomore Charlie Tindall (Tarentum, Pa./Deer Lakes) finished the match with 20 assists, four digs and two service aces.
 
Junior Dylan Lasher (Ford City, Pa./Elderton) again anchored the defensive efforts for Thiel, posting his fifth double-digit digs performance with 10 against the Golden Flyers.
