GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Tomcat men's volleyball team went 1-1 on Saturday at Beeghly Gymnasium.
In their first contest of the day the Tomcats suffered a 3-1 (25-21, 25-19, 20-25, 25-22) setback to Siena Heights University.
Against the Saints the Tomcats were unable to capture the same momentum that carried them to the win a night earlier over the Milwaukee School of Engineering.
Dylan Lasher (Ford City, Pa./Elderton) totaled 11 kills, four digs and a 1.5 blocks while
Kyle Turkalj (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area) added 10 kills and four blocks. The Tomcats managed to hit just .259 and suffered from 14 combined attack errors.
Charlie Tindall (Tarentum, Pa./Deer Lakes) finished with 39 assists.
Colin Vitale (Pittsburgh, Pa./Montour) led the Tomcats with eight digs.
The second matchup of the day saw the Tomcats and Rust College battle back and forth in a four-set thriller, with Thiel finally claiming the 3-1 (25-14, 25-18, 21-25, 32-30) win.
In its four-set win over Rust, Thiel combined to hit .374 and totaled 58 kills. Lasher finished with a season-high 13 kills on 25 total attacks (.480) while adding six digs.
Dante McCoy (Reading, Pa./Holy Name) finished with 11 kills, six digs and three block assists, while
Ian Phillips (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) finished with a team-best 12 digs. Tindall was lethal at catching the defense on their heels at the setter position to the tune of seven kills and 47 assists.
Thiel (8-5) will be back in action on Wednesday, March 6 when it travels to Huntingdon, Pa. to take on Juniata College. The match is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
