Box Score 2 MILWAUKEE, Wisc. -- The men's volleyball team (12-8) picked up a pair of wins on the second day of the Wisconsin Invitational by defeating the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-22) and Fontbonne University 3-0 (25-22, 25-23, 25-20) on Sunday.
In the win over MSOE,
Dylan Lasher (Ford City, Pa./Elderton) and
Kyle Turkalj (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area) notched eight kills apiece while
Dante McCoy (Reading, Pa./Holy Name) and
Michael Whitelock (Pittsburgh, Pa./Schenley) each finished with six kills.
Corey Hamilton (Meadville, Pa./Maplewood) returned to the court for the Tomcats, finishing with seven digs and 11 assists.
Against Fontbonne,
Lasher recorded his first double-double of the season, finishing with 13 kills and 10 digs. Teammates
Charlie Tindall (Tarentum, Pa./Deer Lakes) and Ian Phillips (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) each had seven and
Whitelock added six kills. On defense,
Colin Vitale (Pittsburgh, Pa./Montour) finished with a season-best 25 digs, while Phillips added 10 digs.
After the wins, Coach Steve Brewer had this to say; "After a tough first day, it was great to see the guys bounce back and pick up two wins on day two. The leadership of McCoy, Hamilton and Turkalj really shined through and provided a spark for the whole team."
The Tomcats will next compete at Penn State Behrend Tournament on Saturday, March 23. The first match is set for 12 pm.
