Tomcats cruise to win over Hilbert

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel men's volleyball team (6-4) swept the Hilbert Hawks 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-15) on Tuesday evening in Beeghly Gymnasium.
 
The Tomcats were led by Andrew Pohlod (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) and Michael Whitelock (Pittsburgh, Pa./Schenley), who finished with seven and six kills each in the 3-0 sweep. Alex Ciepiela (Marilla, N.Y./Iroquios Central) ended the match with five kills and two service aces while teammate Kyle Turkalj (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area) chipped in four kills. Charlie Tindall (Tarentum, Pa./Deer Lakes) got the start at setter, administering 27 assists in the Tomcat victory.
 
Defensively, Dylan Lasher (Ford City, Pa./Elderton) paced the Tomcats with six digs, while Ian Phillips (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) added four digs. Whitelock made his presence felt at the net, finishing his night with two and a half total blocks.
 
Overall, the Tomcats had a total of 10 blocks; there third highest total this season.
 
For the Hawks (3-8), Adam Weaver was the top performer, finishing with nine kills.
 
Thiel returns to action on March 1st, when they host the Milwaukee School of Engineering. The match is scheduled to start at 5 p.m.
