Tomcats split on Day 2 of CVC Crossover

GREENVILLE, Pa. – After crushing Eastern Mennonite University, 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-21) in their third match of the 2013 CVC Crossover, the Thiel College men's volleyball team dropped a decision to the second-ranked Carthage Red Men, 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-17) on Sunday at Beeghly Gymnasium.
 
Andrew Pohlod (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) fired a team-high 10 kills and came up with three digs in the win over the Royals of Eastern Mennonite. Additionally, junior Evan Proksell (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler Area) added six kills, while Corey Hamilton (Meadville, Pa./Maplewood) finished with 25 assists and five digs.
 
Later in the day the Tomcats took on Carthage College, who is ranked number two in the most recent American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) poll.
 
Junior Michael Whitelock (Pittsburgh, Pa./Schenley) led the team with eight kills. Hamilton dished out a Thiel-best 20 assists, and finished with six kills on six attempts, utilizing his role as the setter to catch the defense on their heels.
 
 
The Thiel men's volleyball team returns to action on Tuesday when they host Hilbert College. The match is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
