GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Tomcat baseball squad saw an early 4-0 lead slip away as they dropped a 5-4 decision to visiting Washington & Jefferson on Wednesday afternoon in Greenville, Pa.
Eric King (Butler, Pa./Butler) led the way for the Tomcats as he drove in two of the four RBIs for Thiel and went 2-for-3 at the plate. Joining King with multiple hits were
Cody Trinch (Franklin, Pa./Franklin) who finished the day 3-for-4, and
Doug Farley (Linesville, Pa./Linesville) who collected two hits in five plate appearances.
The Tomcats jumped on W & J early as Farley opened the contest with a double to right field and was quickly brought home on a single by King. After an out,
Phil Double (Evans City, Pa./Seneca Valley) knocked a triple into right-center that scored King to make the count 2-0.
Brock Porter (Duncansville, Pa./Hollidaysburg) than singled in Double to give Thiel the 3-0 lead.
After both teams didn't score a run in the second inning, King struck once again in the bottom of the third as he singled in
Ryan Dixon (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) to give the Tomcats a 4-0 lead.
Pitcher
Nick Rossmiller (Butler, Pa./Butler) had a great day going on the mound for the first five innings as he did not allow a run and surrendered just three hits. However, W & J struck for two runs in the top of the fifth and then again in the top of the eighth inning to tie the game at 4-4. The Presidents would then complete the comeback on an RBI single by Robby Perish to take the win at 5-4.
Thiel will return to action on Saturday April 28 when they host Thomas More College in double header action that begins at 1 p.m.
