BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – Nick Rossmiller (Butler, Pa./Butler) improved to 4-1 on the season after leading the Tomcat baseball squad to a 2-1 game one victory in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader at Geneva College. The Golden Tornadoes would strike with eight runs in the first inning of game two and go on to win 9-5.

Rossmiller went 7.0 innings to post the game one victory for Thiel (9-10, 2-4 PAC), allowing one run on four hits and tied his season high with five strikeouts.

Despite being limited to a season-low four hits the Tomcats capitalized on a number of timely knocks en route to the game one win.

A Doug Farley (Linesville, Pa./Linesville) RBI single and a Billy Roosa (Salamanca, N.Y./Ellicottville) RBI double in the sixth broke a 0-0 tie in the top of the sixth. Mike Salava's RBI in the bottom of the frame brought Geneva (11-12, 5-6 PAC) to within one, 2-1, but Rossmiller retired the side in the seventh to preserve the one-run win.

After a Phil Double (Evans City, Pa./Seneca Valley) RBI single in the first gave the visiting Tomcats a 1-0 advantage, Geneva broke open game two with an eight-run first inning as the sent 11 batters to the plate.

Double connected on his first home run of the season in the fourth to bring Thiel to within six, 8-2.

Trailing 9-3 the Tomcats posted a pair of runs in the seventh on RBI singles by Farley and Eric Steininger (West Leechburg, Pa./Leechburg) to close out the scoring.

In his first extended outing of the season Bobby Hillier (Brook Park, Ohio/Midpark) was terrific in relief of starter Cody Northcott (Cochranton, Pa./Cochranton), going 5.1 innings and allowing one run on three hits with three strikeouts.

The Tomcats are back in action on Sunday, April 1 when they travel to the University of Mount Union for a 1 p.m. single, nine-inning contest. The junior varsity squads will match up for a single seven-inning contest following the completion of the Sunday's varsity game.
