KENOSHA, Wisc. – The second day of the Carthage/MSOE tournament finished the same as the first day for the Tomcat men's volleyball team as they split the second day, falling to MSOE in three sets before sweeping Fontbonne University in straight sets on Sunday.
In the first contest of the day, Thiel fell in straight sets to MSOE (25-14, 28-26, 25-23) despite a 14 kill/4 error performance by
Dante McCoy (Reading, Pa./Holy Name).
Corey Hamilton (Meadville, Pa./Maplewood) orchestrated the offense with 23 assists and
John Turner (Cambridge Springs, Pa./Cambridge Springs) added six kills on just 13 attempts.
In the second contest, the Tomcats bounced back nicely as they took care of the Griffins of Fontbonne University 3-0 (25-17; 25-23; 25-16). McCoy once again led the way for Thiel as he was the only Tomcat in double figure kills with 11 and Hamilton added 36 assists. The defense came alive for Thiel as three Tomcats registered double-digit digs as Coli Vitale notched 16 and McCoy and
Ian Phillips (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) each had 10. As a team the Tomcats totaled seven blocks.
The Tomcats will return to action for their final home contest of the season as they play host to Juniata College on March 28. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start time.
