ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Tomcat men's volleyball team suffered a trio of losses will notching one victory over the two-day Fontbonne University tournament in St. Louis, Missouri. Thiel defeated the home standing Griffins of Fontbonne before falling to MIT, the Milwaukee School of Engineering, and Carthage College.
In the first contest of the weekend, the Tomcats defeated the Griffins of Fontbonne 3-1 (22-25; 28-26, 25-22, 25-15). Outside hitter
Dante McCoy (Reading, Pa./Holy Name) and middle hitter
Michael Whitelock (Pittsburgh, Pa./Schenley) led the way for the Tomcats as they notched 15 and 10 kills respectively.
Corey Hamilton (Meadville, Pa./Maplewood) orchestrated the offense to the tune of 27 assists and defensively,
Colin Vitale (Pittsburgh, Pa./Montour) registered 13 digs. As a team, Thiel came together with 10 blocks.
In the next three contests of the weekend, thiel was able to take just one set, falling to MIT and Carthage in straight sets and dropping to MSOE 3-1.
Over the next three contests, McCoy led the way with 31 kills, including a 13 kill performance against MSOE. In the contest against the Carthage Redmen,
Andrew Pohlod (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) put together a 10 kill/1 error game. Other notable performances included
Charlie Tindall (Tarentum, Pa./Deer Lakes)'s eight kill on 12 attempt performance, as well as Hamilton's 33 assists in the same game.
Thiel will next be in action on Saturday March 17 when they will take on Elmira College. The contest is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start time.
