GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Tomcat men's volleyball squad concluded the first night of the 2012 AVI Invitational with a 3-0 shutout of Fontbonne University.
Thiel (6-2) saw a pair of freshman lead the charge in the three-game win with
John Turner (Cambridge Springs, Pa./Cambridge Springs) and
Ian Phillips (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) providing the offense. Turner totaled eight kills while Phillips added five kills, three digs, and 2.0 blocks.
Tyler Kanelos (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) and
Corey Hamilton (Meadville, Pa./Maplewood) distributed 11 and 10 assists, respectively, while
Colin Vitale (Pittsburgh, Pa./Montour) chipped in with eight digs.
The Tomcats return to action on Saturday, February 4 in day two of the 2012 AVI Invitational when they take on Nazareth College, currently ranked fifth in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III Men's Coaches Poll. The match is scheduled to get underway at 10 a.m.
