Men’s Volleyball Falls at Fourth-Ranked Juniata 3-0

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Tomcat men's volleyball squad suffered a 3-0 loss at fourth-ranked Juniata College Wednesday evening.

Juniata (13-6, 1-0) earned 25-19, 25-17, and 25-19 set wins. The Eagles outhit the Tomcats .333-.179 and finished with a 42-27 advantage in kills.

Thiel (10-8, 0-1) was paced offensively by Dante McCoy (Reading, Pa./Holy Name) and Jon Turner, with each totaling eight kills, while Ian Phillips (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) chipped in with six. Corey Hamilton (Meadville, Pa./Maplewood) dished out 25 assists while Phillips led the defensive effort with nine digs.

Paul Kuhn led the Eagles with 15 kills while Joe Bortak added nine. John Almquist distributed 30 assists while adding five digs while Mike Kraft totaled seven digs in the three-set victory.

The Tomcats will look to snap their two-game losing streak on Friday, March 2 at the Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) Weekend, which is being hosted by Stevenson University.  Thiel will stop at Owings Mills, Md. on Friday to take on Eastern Mennonite University (5p.m.) before traveling to Stevenson on Saturday to face the host Mustangs (1:30p.m.) and Philadelphia Biblical University (3:30p.m.).
