ELMIRA, N.Y - The men's volleyball team opened their season with a pair of losses to #13 ranked SUNY - New Paltz and host Elmira College on Saturday.
In the first match against SUNY - New Paltz, the Tomcats battled hard but loss the match in five games (
25-22, 25-22, 20-25, 23-25, 10-15). Dante McCoy (Reading, Pa./Holy Name) had 18 kills and eight digs while teammate John Turner (Cambridge Springs, Pa./Cambridge Springs) added 13 and Andrew Pohlod (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) and Kyle Turkalj (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area) each had eight. Ian Phillips (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) led the Tomcats in digs with 15 and Corey Hamilton (Meadville, Pa./Maplewood) notched 48 assists.
In the second match of the evening, the Tomcats fell to host Elmira College 1-3 (25-21, 21-25, 26-28, 19-25). Once again, McCoy led the team in kills with 16 while Phillips and Turner had 10 and eight kills respectively.
Colin Vitale (Pittsburgh, Pa./Montour) tallied 12 digs for the Tomcats while McCoy had seven. Hamilton totaled 31 assists.
The Tomcats return to action on Sunday where they will face City College of New York at 10 am and Hilbert College at 12 pm.
