Greenville, Pa. — The Tomcat baseball team was defeated by the Bison of Bethany College by a score of 11-4 on Friday at Tomcat Park in Greenville.
The Bison jumped out to a 7-0 lead over the first five innings of play as they put together 11 hits over the five frames including two RBIs by Mike Pegg and Dylan Wassel before the Tomcats could even register a hit.
The Tomcats would then add three runs over the next two innings of play as junior
Brock Porter (Duncansville, Pa./Hollidaysburg) drove in a RBI in the bottom of the sixth, and sophomore
Eric Steininger (West Leechburg, Pa./Leechburg) and junior
Phil Double (Evans City, Pa./Seneca Valley) drove in RBIs in the bottom of the seventh to cut the lead to 7-3.
However, the Bison would expand their lead as they added four runs between the eighth and ninth innings all on singles to make the lead 11-3.
Thiel would only be able to cut the lead by one run in the bottom of the ninth on an RBI by
Phil Double (Evans City, Pa./Seneca Valley), and the Tomcats fell 11-4.
The Bison had a team effort at the plate as four different Bison had two RBIs on the day.
For the Tomcats, Steininger, senior
Luke Johnson (Rochester, Pa./Rochester), and junior
Weston Snyder (Cranesville, Pa./Northwestern) led the way offensively as each put up two hits on the day.
The Tomcats will finish their season with a double header at Bethany College. The first game against the Bison begins at 1:00 p.m.
