Tomcats Win Two Matches

KENOSHA, Wis. — The Thiel men's volleyball team bounced back strong on the second day of the Midwest III Crossover Tournament at Carthage College, posting wins over Mount St. Joseph's and Fontbonne.

The Tomcats rolled to a three-set win over Mount St. Joseph in the opener, winning by scores of 25-9, 25-14, 25-20. Dante McCoy (Reading, Pa., Holy Name) registered 10 kills in the win while Grant Kocher (Venetia, Pa., Peters Township) was right behind him with eight kills in addition to four digs. Jacob Schultz (Cochranton, Pa., Cochranton) had three kills and four digs, John Kahoohanohano (Wailuku, Hawaii, King Kekaulike) tallied 20 assists and Corey Hamilton (Meadville, Pa., Maplewood) finished with 10 assists.

In the second match Thiel took down Fontbonne in three sets, 25-20, 25-21, 25-17. McCoy was once again tops on the team with 18 kills while also adding three digs. Kocher had another solid performance with 10 kills. Schultz had 14 digs and Kahoohanohano had a great all-around match with 34 assists, five digs, three kills and one block.

With the wins, Thiel sweeps the season series against both Mount St. Joseph's and Fontbonne. The Tomcats improve to 7-17 on the season and will return to action on March 16 with a home match against Hilbert.
