BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – Offensive outbursts in the fourth and seventh innings propelled a, 11-8, come-from-behind victory for the Thiel College Tomcats at Geneva College on Friday afternoon.
Geneva kept the Tomcats off the board through the first three innings before the Thiel bats posted a six-run fourth that erased a, 4-0, Golden Tornado advantage.
The inning was highlighted by a base-cleaning effort that would have made famed Beaver Falls butler Mr. Belvedere proud.
Senior right fielder
David Nypaver (Williamsfield, OH/Howland) drove in a pair of runs before centerfielder
Dan Morrison (Cortland, Ohio/Maplewood) stepped to the plate and delivered a three-run blast into the proactive netting above the leftfield fence.
Morrison has driven in eight runs over the past two games.
Geneva regained the lead in the fifth, but Thiel landed the decisive blow in the seventh inning.
Andrew Howard (Olney, Md./Sherwood) and
Chris Dunham (Conneaut Lake, Pa./Linesville) got the four-run frame started in a hurry with back-to-back drives way, way over the leftfield fence, with Dunham's blast clearing the park's protective netting and landing in the backyard of a friendly townsperson.
Howard and Nypaver each registered 3-for-5 afternoons, while Morrison's four RBIs were a game-high.
Dunham,
Justin Scarpitti (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep.), and Morrison each scored a pair of runs.
Thiel welcomes Geneva tomorrow for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
