FORT PIERCE, Fla. (March 9) -- The Thiel College Baseball team dropped a 5-2 non-conference affair with RV Gettysburg Monday afternoon from the Lawnwood Baeball Complex in Fort Pierce, Fla.
The Tomcats dip to 0-6 while the Bullets rise to 9-0.
Hewitt Wilt (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva) got the start for Thiel and worked a scoreless first with a pair of strikeouts. Gettysburg got to Wilt in the second for a pair of runs to lead 2-0 before the Cats got on the board with 1 in the third on a
Max Bihler (Delaware, Ohio/Olentangy Berlin) RBI infield single to score
Joey Fell (Warren, Ohio/Champion) and make it 2-1.
Bihler finished with a career-high-tying three hits, as he went 3-for-4 with a RBI. Fell reached base three times on walk and scored once.
The Bullet added 2 more in the fifth to lead 4-1. In the botton of the sixth,
Calvin Cackowski (Wickliffe, Ohio/Wickliffe) roped a leadoff double and Bihler added a single to put runners on the corners with no outs. Cackowski scampered home on a
Kolten Kruszewski (Erie, Pa./Mercyhurst Prep) groundout to make it 4-2 as the Cat were unable to do any more damage.
Cackowski finished with a hit and run each while Kruszewski was 2-for-4 with a RBI.
The Tomcats had the tying run in the on-deck circle in each of the last three innings, but were unable to pull off a comeback.
Wilt logged four-plus innings of work with four strikeouts as he falls to 0-1.
David Medich (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) worked three inning with a pair of K's while
JT Gerle (Ambridge, Pa./Ambridge) worked a pair of perfect innings with two strikeouts.
Thiel is back in action tomorrow morning at 10 for a clash with Heidelberg from Bob Gladwin Stadium.
