STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (March 29) -- The Thiel College Men's Golf team opened its spring slate of action at the two-day PA Classic hosted by Penn State Altoona at the PSU Blue Course Saturday and Sunday.
The Tomcats posted a 36-hole score of 643 (+67), carding rounds of 333 and 310. Thiel showed significant improvement on day two, trimming 23 strokes off its opening-round total.
Eli Nicklas (Erie, Pa./Northwest Pennsylvania Collegiate Academy) led the way for the Tomcats, finishing tied for 34th with a two-day score of 156 (+12). Nicklas turned in rounds of 78 and 78.
Joe Grundy (Saegertown, Pa./Saegertown) and
Brandon Stubert (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) each tied for 56th at 160 (+16). Grundy improved by two strokes in the final round, shooting 81-79, while Stubert recorded one of the team's top rounds of the weekend with a 74 on Sunday after opening with an 86.
Jackson Gadsby (Sandy Lake, Pa./Lakeview) placed 82nd with a score of 167 (+23), posting rounds of 88 and 79, while
Tommy Burns (Buffalo, N.Y./Williamsville North) rounded out the lineup with a 178 (+34) (89-89).
The Tomcats return to action Monday April 6 for the Thiel Invitational from Avalon at Buhl.
