HERMITAGE, Pa. (April 6) -- The Thiel College Men's Golf team placed 6th-of-11 squads at its annual Thiel Spring Invitational Monday afternoon from Avalon at Buhl in Hermitage.
The Tomcats posted a team score of 314 (+34) to place sixth as they were led by a pair of strong performances at the top of the lineup.
Eli Nicklas (Erie, Pa./Northwest Pennsylvania Collegiate Academy) and Brandon Stubert (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) paced Thiel with matching rounds of 77 (+7) to finish tied for 18th in a 60-golfer field. Stubert had a trio of birdies and six pars while Nicklas fired two birdies and seven pars.
Joe Grundy (Saegertown, Pa./Saegertown) followed closely with a 79 (+9) to tie for 24th. He posted a solid back nine with five pars and birdie.
Jackson Gadsby (Sandy Lake, Pa./Lakeview) carded an 81 (+11) to tie for 32nd while Tommy Burns (Buffalo, N.Y./Williamsville North) rounded out the scoring five with an 87 (+17) to tie for 49th. Competing as an individual, Brett Crawn (New Kensington, Pa./Valley) finished with a round of 88 (+18).
The Cats are back on the links Thursday for the Bethany Spring Invitational from Speidel GC.
