GROVE CITY, Pa. (Sept. 29) -- Thiel College sophomore golfer
Eli Nicklas (Erie, Pa./Northwest Pennsylvania Collegiate Academy) tied for 11th in a crowded 97-player field at the Grove City Invitational from Grove City CC Monday.
Nicklas fired a 2-over 74 as he shot a 38 on the front nine and even-par 36 on the back. He had three front-nine birdies and pars each with one birdie and seven pars on the back nine.
Nicklas' 74 was his best 18-hole score of the season while his 11th-place finish was also a season best.
Tommy Burns (Buffalo, N.Y./Williamsville North) tied for 45th with an 8-over 80. He logged six pars on the front nine and five on the back.
Joe Grundy (Saegertown, Pa./Saegertown) tied for 53rd with a 9-over 81. He had eight straight pars from the 9th through 16th holes along with one birdie for the round.
Jackson Gadsby (Sandy Lake, Pa./Lakeview) and
Brady Rzodkiewicz (Harborcreek, Pa./Harbor Creek) each tied for 62nd with an 11-over 83. Gadsby totaled three birdies while Rzodkiewicz had nine pars.
As a team, Thiel placed 12th-of-16 with a 318.
The Tomcats are back in action Sunday and next Monday in Penn State Altoona's Sinking Valley Classic from Sinking Valley CC.
