GREENVILLE, Pa. (May 27) -- Thiel College junior Baseball catcher
Calvin Cackowski (Wickliffe, Ohio/Wickliffe) was named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-Region 7 Third Team Tuesday afternoon.
As voted on by ABCA members, the All-Region teams honor the best players in all 10 regions with the process being led by the ABCA NCAA Div. III All-America & Coach of the Year Committee.
Cackowski was named to the All-PAC First Team after becoming the first Tomcat since Trent Mosley in 2015 to lead the PAC in home runs with a career-high nine. His nine long balls were the most by a Tomcat since Justin Scarpitti raked 10 in 2009.
Cackowski slugged a conference-leading .662, which was nearly 50 percentage points higher than the next closest player. Cackowski finished third in the PAC in total bases (88) and doubles (15) while placing fourth in OPS (1.088) and eighth in RBIs (37). He sat in the top 25 in batting (.346).
He produced a career-long 15 game hitting streak from March 25 to April 23 where he hit .483 (29-for-60) with 27 RBIs, eight homers and nine doubles. His average increased from .205 to .365 in the streak. He was named the PAC Hitter of the Week on April 21 after hitting .500 (8-for-16), slugging .875 and knocking in 5 runs in the week prior.
Cackowski is the 27th player in team history to be named to the ABCA/Rawlings All-Rregion team.
