Box Score DUBOIS, Pa. – The Thiel College baseball team lost a non-conference game to the Penn-State DuBois Lion, 15-10, Thursday night.
The Tomcats opened up a 3-0 lead in the second inning, before the Lions tied it up in the bottom half of the inning. Then, the Tomcats scored three more runs to take a 6-3 lead in the third, before Penn-State DuBois scored seven runs in the bottom of the third to get the lead for good.
The Tomcats were led by
Ethan Bintrim (New Castle, Pa./Shenango), who went 3-for-5 including a homerun and three RBIs.
Calvin Cackowski (Wickliffe, Ohio/Wickliffe) also homered while driving in four runs.
Chase Morrison (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) went 2-for-4 with one RBI and one walk.
Travis Harvey (Boardman, Ohio/Boardman) started the game on the mound for the Tomcats in a bullpen game, pitching the first two innings, giving up three hits and three runs. He also struck out two. Ickes was the first pitcher out of the pen, pitching one inning, giving up one hit anf four runs, while also walking one. Ickes also earned the loss.
Charlie Luedtke (Mars, Pa./Mars Area),
Alec Katon (Ashtabula, Ohio/Edgewood),
Cole Sherwin (Karns City, Pa./Karns City),
Josh Daum (Tionesta, Pa./North Clarion) and
Dillon Belknap (Lagrange, Ohio/Keystone) all pitched in relief, combining for seven strikeouts.
The Lions were led by Hayden Vaughn who went 4-for-4 including four RBIs and one walk. Colby Bodtorf went 3-for-5 including one RBI. Cory Lehman went 1-for-4 including a three-run homer.
Mason Lieb started for the Lions, pitching two innings, giving up three runs on three hits. The rest of the Lions pitching staff gave up nine hits and seven runs, with five walks.
The Tomcats are back in action on Sunday when they travel to Westminster for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader. The conference game is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m.
