Trinch’s Walk-Off Home Run powers Thiel past Geneva

Box Score GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Thiel College junior shortstop Cody Trinch (Franklin, Pa./Franklin)'s walk-off solo home run powered the Thiel College baseball team to a 5-4 victory over the Geneva College Golden Tornadoes Friday afternoon in Presidents' Athletic Conference play.

Trinch's game-winner was his third hit against Geneva, as he finished 3-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored and a RBI. Sophomore centerfielder Bryan Mitchell (Cleveland, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) finished 3-for-5 with a run scored and two stolen bases. Sophomore first baseman Trent Smith (Franklin, Pa./Franklin) added a RBI-double.

Sophomore relief pitcher Pat Duncan (Eastlake, Ohio/Eastlake North) picked up the win out of the bullpen and improved to 4-5 on the season, allowing three runs, two of which were earned, on four hits over three innings. Junior starter Parker Meyers (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) went six innings and allowed just one run on four hits with five strikeouts.

Caleb Metzler suffered the loss for the Golden Tornadoes, allowing one run on two hits in two innings of work. Starter Drew Nichols went six innings and allowed four runs on six hits. Shortstop Andy Santana went 2-for-5 with a home run while first baseman Tyler Damazo chipped in a pair of bases hits.

With Thiel ahead 4-1 heading into the eighth, Geneva plated a pair to make it a one run ballgame. After the Tomcats stranded two in the home half of the eighth, a double by Damazo with two-outs in the top of the ninth tied the game at 4-4.

Trinch's game-winner in the bottom of the ninth sealed the victory for the Tomcats.

Thiel (14-22, 8-14 PAC) closes out the 2014 season tomorrow, May 3, when they travel to Beaver Falls, Pa. for a PAC doubleheader with the Golden Tornadoes.
