Thiel falls to Penn State Behrend in rain shortened game

Box Score ERIE, Pa. – The Thiel Tomcats suffered a 17-5 non-conference loss on the road Monday to the Penn State Behrend Lions in a contest shortened to eight innings due to rain.
 
The Lions scored ten runs in the first three innings to cruise to the victory. Penn State Behrend notched a pair of runs in the bottom of the first, and added back-to-back four run frames to build a 10-0 lead after three.


The Tomcats tallied four runs in the top of the fourth inning, as Max Gunn (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) drew a bases loaded walk, Cody Trinch (Franklin, Pa./Franklin) hit a 2-RBI single and a RBI-double by Josh Doody (Grove City, Pa. /Grove City) highlighted the scoring for Thiel.

Penn State Behrend continued scoring, adding seven unanswered runs to seal the win.
 
Brandon Gelet (Wyano, Pa./Yough) led the Tomcats at the plate with a 2-for-2 performance, recording a triple and a run scored. Trinch went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while Sam Passafiume (Medina, Ohio/Medina) went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.
 
Kevin Forrester (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) suffered the loss, dropping his season record to 2-3. He allowed nine runs, eight of which were earned, on 11 hits. Wood earned the win, upping his season record to 2-1. He gave up four runs on six hits.
 
The Tomcats (11-16) will return to action Wednesday, April 16 when they travel to Alliance, Ohio to take on the Mount Union Purple Raiders. The game is set to begin at 2:00 p.m.
