Box Score WASHINGTON, Pa. - The Thiel College baseball team lost to the third-seed Thomas More Saints, 14-1, in the first day of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) tournament Thursday. The second-seeded Tomcats fall to 24-17 on the season and will play the loser of the Saint Vincent/Washington and Jefferson matchup Friday at 3 p.m. in the losers' bracket game of the double-elimination tournament.
Thomas More improves to 28-12 and advances to play the winner of Saint Vincent/Washington and Jefferson Friday at noon.
The Saints held a comfortable lead from the onset by scoring six runs in the top of the fourth inning, as they collected three hits and took advantage of three Tomcat errors to take a 6-0 lead.
After the Saints added two more runs in the top of the fifth, Thiel sophomore shortstop
Cody Trinch (Franklin, Pa./Franklin) hit a RBI-single in the bottom of the fifth inning, but the deficit was too much for the Tomcats. Thomas More would go up 14-1 after plating a run in the seventh, two in the eighth and a three spot in the ninth inning.
Senior outfielder
Doug Farley (Linesville, Pa./Linesville) was the only Tomcat to reach base twice as he went 1-for-3 with a single and a walk. Thomas More outhit the Tomcats 14-7 led by David Kennett going 3-for-5 with three RBIs.
Paul Uhl (6-1) went the distance for the Saints, throwing nine innings with one earned run off seven hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
Senior
Nick Rossmiller (Butler, Pa./Butler) absorbed the loss as the first of three Tomcat pitchers to take the mound. Rossmiller went 4 1/3 innings with eight runs (only two earned) off eight hits with one strikeout.
