Yeager and Richey honored on Senior Day

Tomcats lose heartbreaker to W&J

Box Score GREENVILLE, Pa. - The Thiel women's volleyball team rallied to tie the Presidents of Washington and Jefferson College at two sets apiece on Saturday, but the Presidents prevailed, taking set five, 15-13 and the match, 3-2.
 
W&J took the opening two sets by identical scores of 25-23, before Thiel bounced back with a 25-18 triumph in set three. The home team forced a decisive fifth set with a 25-17 win in set four. The Tomcats held a slim 8-7 advantage in the deciding fifth set; however, the Presidents rebounded to win the set and seal the victory.
 
Thiel was led by Lauren Richey (Harmarville, PA/Springdale), who was one of two Tomcats honored prior to the match as a part of senior day. Richey finished her last match as a Tomcat with a match-high 16 kills, to go along with six digs and three total blocks. The Springdale High product ended her final collegiate season by leading her team in kills (232), kills per set (2.23) and hitting percentage (.115).

Junior Alex Hall (Norwin, Pa./Norwin) and freshman Lenora Boyer (Delaware, Ohio/Delaware Christian) each chipped in 12 kills, which fellow freshman Alannah Keisling (Englewood, Fla./Lemon Bay) pitched in eight. Hall finished the match with 26 assists, eight digs and three service aces, while Boyer added 26 digs.
 
Sophomore Heather Reichenback (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek) again anchored the defensive efforts for Thiel, topping her previous season-best total with 34 digs Saturday. Freshman Jennifer Shelley (Port Allegany, Pa./Port Allegany) tallied her seventh double-double of the season, recording 19 assists and 14 digs.
 
Senior Leanna Yeager (Poland, Ohio/Poland Seminary) was unable to play in the match due to injury, but finishes her senior season tied for 31st in NCAA Division III with a 1.06 blocks per set average.

The Tomcats conclude the 2013 season with an overall record of 4-26. The Presidents finish the season with a 15-11 overall record.
