KENOSHA, Wisc. – The Tomcat men's volleyball team split a pair of contests on Saturday evening at the Carthage College/Milwaukee School of Engineering tournament. The Tomcats fell in five sets to Elmira College before defeating Rust in straight sets (25-17; 25-19; 25-18).
In the first contest of the day, Thiel fell to the 12
th ranked Soaring Eagles of Elmira College 3-2 (23-25; 25-22; 22-25; 25-15; 15-17). The Tomcats were led by
Dante McCoy (Reading, Pa./Holy Name) and
John Turner (Cambridge Springs, Pa./Cambridge Springs) who posted 17 and 10 kills respectively.
Charlie Tindall (Tarentum, Pa./Deer Lakes) notched 27 assists, and defensively
Ian Phillips (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) led the way with 15 digs and McCoy added 12. For the Soaring Eagles, Mike Stianche put together a great day putting together 30 kills over the course of the game.
In the second game, Thiel took down Rust College 3-0. Four tomcats registered at least six kills as
Kyle Turkalj (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area) (eight),
Dylan Lasher (Ford City, Pa./Elderton) (seven) and Tindall and McCoy added six a piece. Tindall put together another solid contest orchestrating the offense to the tune of 24 assists, and Phillips once again led Thiel's defense with 17 digs.
The Tomcats will continue play at the Carthage/MSOE tournament tomorrow with games against MSOE and Fontbonne University. The contest against the home standing raiders begins at nine a.m. with the game against Fontbonne scheduled for 12 p.m.
