Big Innings Doom Tomcat Baseball

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel Baseball team was defeated by a score of 16-1 by Waynesburg University in a nine-inning contest on Saturday in Greenville.

After Waynesburg got on the board first in the top of the first inning, Thiel came back with their lone run of the game in the top of the third inning on a RBI single by sophomore Eric Steininger (West Leechburg, Pa./Leechburg) which scored senior Jake Thomas (Canton, Ohio/Massillon Jackson) to tie the game at one.

The Yellow Jackets then responded with 15 runs between the fourth and seventh innings including a seven run fifth and a five run seventh. Seven different Waynesburg hitters registered an RBI with four different Yellow Jackets driving in more than one runner.

Waynesburg was led offensively by Tim Chilcote, who went 3-for-4 on the day and registered three RBIs.

Offensively for the Tomcats, Steininger and Thomas registered two hits apiece with Steininger driving in the lone RBI on the day.

Thiel will be back in action on Tuesday April 26 when they take on LaRoche College at Tomcat Park in Greenville. The game is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
