BETHANY, W.Va. (April 7, 2010) – A passed ball in the bottom of the ninth inning allowed Bethany's Eric Fudala to score from third to give the Bison a, 9-8, win over Thiel College in Presidents' Athletic Conference baseball action Wednesday afternoon.
The loss overshadowed outstanding offensive outings by
Luke Johnson (Rochester, Pa./Rochester) and
Brock Porter (Duncansville, Pa./Hollidaysburg).
Johnson continued his recent tear by going 3-for-3 with two runs and three RBI, while Porter posted a 4-for-5 day with two RBI.
Phil Double (Evans City, Pa./Seneca Valley) scored three of the Tomcat runs.
Thiel led, 6-4, through six innings before Bethany took its first lead of the game by posting four runs in the bottom of the seventh.
The Tomcats scored runs in the tops of the eighth and ninth innings before Fudula's decisive run.
Cory Borland (Uniontown, Pa./Laurel Highlands) took the loss for Thiel, while Bethany's Brad Kubis earned his first win of the season.
Thiel (11-10; 4-5 PAC) returns to action Thursday when they welcome Allegheny for a nine-inning game at Tomcat Park. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
