Teyssier's strong outting keys Thiel split with Case

GREENVILLE, Pa. (April 24, 2010) – The Thiel College baseball team earned a doubleheader split against interleague foe Case Western Reserve on Saturday afternoon at overcast-but-comfortable Tomcat Park. The Tomcats registered a 2-0 win in game one, but dropped the day cap, 6-3.
Starting pitcher James Teyssier (McKees Rocks, Pa./Montour) regained his early season form in the day's first game, as Thiel saw its ten-game skid come to an end.
The junior earned his fourth win of the year with a complete-game, five-hit shutout. Teyssier faced a mere 26 batters in the contest, walking one and striking out three.
Thiel scored the game's only two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Eric King (Butler, Pa./Butler) and Phil Double (Evans City, Pa./Seneca Valley) started off the frame with consecutive base knocks. King would eventually score on a wild pitch, while Double came home on a Brock Porter (Duncansville, Pa./Hollidaysburg) sac fly to right field.
King, Luke Johnson (Rochester, Pa./Rochester) and Justin Scarpitti (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep.) each turned in 2-for-3 performances from the dish.
The Tomcats squandered an early three-run lead in the second game as Case came charging back with one, three and two runs in the second through fourth innings.
Johnson and Scarpitti each scored a run to go along two hits.
Case reliever Devin Dye earned his second save of the season, pitching 2 1/3 innings and inducing Porter's game-ending fly-out with two on in the bottom of the seventh.
Brett Ossola paced the Spartan offense with two runs and two RBI on three hits.
Saturday marked the second time this season that the Tomcats played back-to-back error-free games.
Weather permitting, Thiel (12-20) will welcome Allegheny for a 1 p.m. contest on Sunday.
