Scarpitti snaps slump but Grove City takes two from Thiel

GROVE CITY, Pa. (April 20, 2010) – The Thiel College baseball team dropped a pair of Presidents' Athletic Conference games on Tuesday afternoon to in-county rival Grove City at R.J. Behringer Field. The Wolverines won the first game, 8-1, then took game two, 10-4.
Thiel outhit the Wolverines 11-to-9 but stranded 10 runners to Grove City's three.
Phil Double (Evans City, Pa./Seneca Valley), Jarrod Nanna and Brad Bates (Kinsman, Ohio/Badger) each notched two hits in the contest, with Bates scoring two of the Tomcats' runs. Luke Johnson (Rochester, Pa./Rochester) paced Thiel with a game-high-tying two RBI.
Tomcat starter Justin Fiorello (Eastlake, Ohio/Eastlake North) took the loss in the first game, as the Wolverine offense racked up 12 hits and was aided by a pair of errors.
Double scored Thiel's only run in the fourth inning on a Weston Snyder (Cranesville, Pa./Northwestern) single.
Senior first baseman Justin Scarpitti (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep.) led Thiel's 10-hit effort by going 3-for-3 on the afternoon, ending a midseason 0-for-13 slump from the plate.
Thiel fell to 11-19 on the season with the setbacks; Grove City improved to 14-11.
