WASHINGTON, Pa. (April 18, 2010) – With an 11-1 win over Thiel College on Sunday at Ross Memorial Park, Washington & Jefferson College complete its third-straight Presidents' Athletic Conference series sweep and improved its record to 19-5 on the year including a 9-0 mark in the league.
Thiel fell to 11-17 and 4-11 in league play with its eighth consecutive setback.
W&J senior right-handed pitcher
Mitch McClay allowed one unearned run on six hits in seven innings of work for the win, while
Cody Northcott (Cochranton, Pa./Cochranton) took the loss in his first varsity start.
Juniors
Luke Johnson (Rochester, Pa./Rochester) and
Jake Thomas (Canton, Ohio/Massillon Jackson) both notched multi-hit games for Thiel. Johnson when 3-for-5 with an RBI and Thomas registered two hits in four at bats.
Freshman designated hitter Jarrod Nanna scored the Tomcats' only run in the second inning.
Thiel will stay on the road to visit Grove City for a doubleheader at 1 p.m. on Tuesday.
