Baseball suffers sweep at hands of league-leading W&J

GREENVILLE, Pa. (April 17, 2010) – The Washington & Jefferson Presidents looked every bit of a conference leader Saturday afternoon, as they swept a PAC doubleheader from the Thiel College Tomcats with scores of 11-4 and 10-3 at frigid Tomcat Park.
Washington & Jefferson upped its record to 18-5 and 9-0 in league play as Thiel fell to 11-16 and 4-10 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference.
In each game a five-run W&J inning did-in the Tomcats.
In game one, Thiel stood toe-to-toe with the Presidents until the top of the fifth inning, when they posted a five-spot thanks in some part to a porous Tomcat defense – which ultimately committed six errors in the game.
Thiel was barely outhit – 12-to-11 – in the contest, with Brock Porter (Duncansville, Pa./Hollidaysburg), Jake Thomas (Canton, Ohio/Massillon Jackson) and Ryan Dixon (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) each getting two hits.
James Teyssier (McKees Rocks, Pa./Montour) took the loss.
In the second game, W&J wasted no time, staking claim to a five-run lead after the first half inning of play. The Presidents tacked on three runs in the second and two runs in the fourth to take care of their side of the ledger.
Thiel, on the other hand, scored a run in the first inning and two in the seventh inning, in what was a nine hit, no error effort for the 'Cats.
Luke Johnson (Rochester, Pa./Rochester) and Weston Snyder (Cranesville, Pa./Northwestern) each notched a pair of hits. Thiel starter Josh Russell (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks) took the loss.
Thiel wraps up its three-game series with the Presidents on Sunday in Washington.
