CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. (April 11, 2010) – The Thomas More Saints outhit the Thiel College baseball team 18-to-10 in a, 12-7, win over the Tomcats at Thomas More Field on Sunday. With the win, the Saints swept the seasons series from Thiel, dropping them to 11-13 overall and 4-8 in Presidents' Athletic Conference play.
Thomas More raises its record to 14-9 and 3-0 in league play.
Thiel fell in a, 8-0, hole after the first four innings, before designated hitter
Jarrod Nanna cracked the scoreboard with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning.
After surrendering a one spot to Thomas More in the sixth, Thiel bounced back with four runs in the bottom of the frame.
Luke Johnson (Rochester, Pa./Rochester) got the inning started with a double to right-centerfield and advanced to third on a one-out base knock by
Brock Porter (Duncansville, Pa./Hollidaysburg).
Justin Scarpitti (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep.) was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
Porter and Johnson scored on a misplayed fielder's choice hit by Nanna.
After
Phil Double (Evans City, Pa./Seneca Valley) grounded out to the pitcher,
Jake Thomas (Canton, Ohio/Massillon Jackson) drove in Nanna and Scarpitti with a single to second base.
Bobby Hillier (Brook Park, Ohio/Midpark) grounded out to end the inning.
Thomas More scratched out three runs over the next two innings before Johnson and
Ryan Dixon (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) scored on a a fielding error in the ninth inning to close out the scoring.
Scarpitti led Thiel at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a run scored. Thomas went 2-for-4 with three RBI.
James Teyssier (McKees Rocks, Pa./Montour) took the loss for the Tomcats, falling to 3-4.
Thiel returns to action on Thursday when it visits Penn State Behrend for a 3 p.m. contest.
