VERO BEACH, Fla. (March 4, 2010) – Alvernia University downed the Thiel College baseball team, 18-3, Thursday afternoon at Dodgertown.
The Tomcat defense committed 10 errors in the loss, which dropped them to 3-3 on the season. Alvernia upped its record to 5-1.
The Thiel offense was shutout through the first seven innings of play before freshman centerfielder
Ryan Bernat (Indiana, Pa., Homer-Center) singled, stole second and came home when a ball off the bat of shortstop
Bobby Hillier (Brook Park, Ohio, Midpark) was misplayed by the Crusaders' shortstop.
First baseman
Justin Scarpitti (Erie, Pa., Cathedral Prep.) and catcher
Brock Porter (Duncansville, Pa., Hollidaysburg) tacked on two more runs in the ninth.

Nick Ferracano (New Kensington, Pa., Plum) notched RBIs in the frame.

Cory Borland (Uniontown, Pa., Laurel Highlands) was tagged with the loss.
The Tomcats get another crack at Alvernia Friday at 12:30 p.m. at Dodgertown.
