CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Thiel College Baseball team swept a non-conference doubleheader Saturday at Case Western Reserve to improve to 21-11 on the season. Thiel won both contests thanks to ample offense and superlative pitching with finals of 3-1 and 8-0.
In the day's first game,
James Teyssier (McKees Rocks, Pa./Montour) started the game and threw six strong innings, striking out three while giving up only two extra-base hits.
Mark Brewer (Beaver Falls/Blackhawk) pitched the seventh to earn his third save of the year.
Thiel scored all the runs it would need in the fifth when
Justin Scarpitti (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep.),
David Nypaver, and
Brad Bates (Kinsman, Ohio/Badger) scored a trio of unearned runs.
In the second game of the twinbill,
Justin Fiorello (Eastlake, Ohio/Eastlake North) pitched a complete-game shutout while striking out seven and walking just one batter.
Louie Parrilla (McKees Rocks/Sto Rox) paced the Thiel offense, putting together a 3-for-4 day and scoring three runs.
Nypaver also scored a pair of runs while stroking a three-run homer in the third.
Thiel returns to action when it visits Allegheny for a 3:30 p.m. contest.
