Thiel defense shaky in loss to Behrend

GREENVILLE, Pa. – Penn State Behrend took advantage of Thiel pitching and a shaky defense to power its way to a, 13-7, non-conference win at Tomcat Park on Thursday. The setback drops Thiel to 19-11 on the season, while the Lions improve to 21-5.
Designated hitter Eddie Kessler led Behrend offensively notching four of the Lions' 18 hits on the afternoon. Kessler also scored two runs and drove in two more.
The Lions were also aided by a seven-error day by the Tomcat defense.
Thiel's Chris Dunham (Conneaut Lake, Pa./Linesville) and Chad Ulogar (Willoughby, Ohio/South) each put together three-hit days for the 'Cats. Dunham and Luke Johnson (Rochester, Pa./Rochester) knocked in a team-best two runs apiece, while Justin Scarpitti (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep.) scored three runs to highlight a 2-for-4 day at the plate.
Pitcher Fran Haus earned the win for Behrend by surrendering just three earned runs and striking out two in 7 1/3 innings of work. Thiel starter Josh Russell (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks) took the loss for Thiel, falling to 1-2 on the year.
The Tomcats will look to break a slump that has seen them drop six of their last nine decisions when they visit Case Western Reserve for a 1 p.m. contest on Saturday.
