NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Thiel College baseball team split a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader with Westminster on the Saturday afternoon. The Tomcats smashed the Titans to the tune of, 17-2, in the first game before falling to Westminster, 8-4, in the day cap.
Thiel starting pitcher
Josh Tedesco (Campbell, Ohio/Ursuline) earned the win in game one, putting in six solid innings of work. The lefty didn't give up an earned run, while giving up eight hits and walking none.
Matt Stumpf (McKees Rocks, Pa./Sto Rox) led the charge offensively for the Tomcats, going 4-for-5 and batting in three runs. Stumpf also got things started in Thiel's big second inning with a leadoff homerun.
The 'Cats would go on to score eight runs in the frame.
In game two,
Dave Diyorio (Youngstown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) took the loss, giving up five earned runs on 10 hits in 5 2/3 innings.
No. 20 Thiel (14-5; 6-1 PAC) hosts Westminster on Sunday at 1 p.m.
