Women's Basketball to host July Skills Camp

GREENVILLE, Pa. (June 19) -- Thiel College Women's Basketball head coach Jessica Vormelker '19 has announced that the program will host a Skills Camp on July 18 inside Beeghly Gymnasium. Registration is $40 per camper through Friday, July 11, with same-day registration available for $50. Families registering two or more campers will receive a $10 sibling discount.

Space is limited and registration is now open. For more information or to register, click here or the the blue box above. Coach Vormelker can be contacted with any questions regarding the camp by email at jvormelker@thiel.edu.

The one-day camp is designed for boys and girls entering grades 1-8 looking to improve their basketball fundamentals in a fun, energetic and competitive environment. Campers will receive instruction from Coach Vormelker and the Thiel women's basketball coaching staff while developing their skills through drills, competitions and live game play.

Two camp sessions will be offered throughout the day. The morning session, for campers entering grades 1-4, will run from 10 a.m. to noon. The afternoon session, for campers entering grades 5-8, is scheduled from 1-3 p.m.

The camp will give young players the chance to learn in an enjoyable environment while being coached by the Thiel Women's Basketball team and staff. Every camper will be taught the game, challenged to improve and encouraged to grow as a player and teammate.

Additionally, the camp will focus on all aspects of player development, including ball handling, shooting form and shot preparation, passing and moving without the ball, defense, rebounding, finishing around the rim, teamwork, communication, leadership and basketball IQ. Campers will also participate in competitive drills, small-sided games and live competition while learning the value of teamwork and sportsmanship.

"We're excited to welcome young players to campus and provide them with an opportunity to grow their game in a positive environment," Vormelker said. "Our goal is to help every camper improve their skills, build confidence and leave with an even greater love for the game of basketball."

Entering her fourth season as head coach, Vormelker guided the Tomcats to their highest win output since 2019 last season. The former Thiel standout was the 2019 Presidents' Athletic Conference Player of the Year and remains one of the most decorated student-athletes in program history.
