Walters promoted to Director of Soccer

GREENVILLE, Pa. (May 20) -- Thiel College Director of Athletics Isaac Collins announced Tuesday the promotion of Zack Walters to Director of Soccer, effective immediately.

Walters will continue to serve as head coach of the Thiel men's soccer program while also leading the women's program and assuming an expanded leadership role overseeing all aspects of the College's soccer operations.

"We are excited to officially move Zack from Interim Head Women's Soccer Coach into the role of Director of Soccer and Head Men's and Women's Soccer Coach," Collins said. "We believe his vision, passion for student-athlete development and commitment to building both programs the right way make him an excellent fit to lead Thiel Soccer moving forward."

Walters was named Interim Women's Soccer Head Coach in February and proceeded to double the size of the roster in three months with more than a dozen committed recruits. On the men's side, Walters has spearheaded the revitalization of the program, which collected seven wins in 2024, the second-most in program history.

"I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to lead both the men's and women's soccer programs at Thiel," Walters said. "I want to thank President Traverso, Vice President McKinney and Director of Athletics Collins for their trust and belief in our vision for these programs. Our goal is to continue building a culture centered around respect, accountability and passion while developing young men and women who want to leave a legacy both on and off the field. We want our programs to compete at a high level, represent Thiel the right way and create an environment where student-athletes can grow academically, athletically and socially every day."

Walters will be tasked with bringing the same energy and momentum to the women's program, which showed promise during an otherwise challenging 2025 campaign.

"Zach has done an outstanding job leading our women's soccer program during a critical transition period, and throughout the process he demonstrated the ability to recruit, retain and build meaningful relationships with our student-athletes," Collins added. "He has shown the ability to create a strong culture within his programs while representing Thiel College and our athletic department in a first-class manner."

Walters will be entering his seventh season at the helm of the Men's Soccer team in 2026. Under his guidance and mentorship, 12 Tomcats have garnered All-Conference recognition while 11 have made the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team. The Cats have brought home five consecutive United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Awards in his tenure.

A graduate of rival Westminster College, Walters was a two-time All-Conference performer for the Titans as a four-year starter and two-year captain.
