GREENVILLE, Pa. (Aug. 19) -- Thiel College Director of Athletics Isaac Collins announced the promotion of Ryan Morian to head men's and women's golf coach Thursday.
Morian, who has served as an assistant coach for the Tomcats since 2022, brings more than 25 years of experience in the golf industry to the position. A PGA Professional, Morian's extensive background includes collegiate coaching, player development and golf instruction across five separate local country clubs.
"Ryan brings a unique combination of PGA experience, teaching expertise and an established understanding of Thiel College and our student-athletes to the position," Collins said. "Having already served our men's and women's golf programs as an assistant coach, Ryan understands where we are while bringing a clear vision for where we can go. Throughout this process, what stood out was Ryan's commitment to developing the whole student-athlete—academically, personally, and competitively—and his passion for teaching and growing the game of golf. I am excited to see Ryan put his own leadership stamp on both programs as we work to strengthen recruiting, build sustainable rosters, enhance the student-athlete experience and position Thiel Golf for long-term success."
During his four years on the Thiel coaching staff, Morian has played a key role in the development of the Tomcats, working closely with student-athletes on swing mechanics and overall player development. His work helped improve the team's scoring average and contributed to a top-five conference finish as Jackson Gadsby (Sandy Lake, Pa./Lakeview) and Joe Grundy (Saegertown, Pa./Saegertown) each earned All-Conference recognition last spring.
"I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to lead the men's and women's golf programs at Thiel," Morian said. "Having been part of this program for the past four years, I have been able to build great relationships with our student-athletes and see firsthand the potential we have on both the men's and women's sides. Golf has been my life's work, and I am excited to use my experience as a PGA Professional to continue developing our players. I am excited to build on the foundation Coach McMillen established and continue moving Tomcat Golf forward."
Away from Thiel, Morian currently serves as Director of Instruction and Assistant Golf Professional at The Country Club of Meadville, where he provides instruction to golfers of all skill levels and assists with tournament operations.
Prior to returning to The Country Club of Meadville, Morian spent more than a decade as the PGA Head Golf Professional and Director of Golf Operations at Oakland Beach Golf Club from 2014-25. His responsibilities included golf instruction, club fitting and repair, retail operations and the overall management of golf operations.
Morian's career in the golf industry also includes previous stops as an assistant golf professional at The Country Club of Meadville, a teaching professional at GolfTEC, assistant golf professional and tournament director at Valley Brook Country Club and assistant golf professional at Greenville Country Club.
An accomplished golfer himself, Morian competed collegiately at Slippery Rock University, where he was a three-year member of the nationally ranked golf team. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Slippery Rock.
Morian is a member of the PGA of America and has also been recognized as a member of the PGA President's Council. His more than two decades as a PGA Professional have allowed him to work with golfers ranging from beginners and junior players to collegiate and tournament competitors.
Morian succeeds Dan McMillen '86, who retired earlier this month after leading the Tomcats for 16 seasons.
